Robert Egger, Founder + President, DC Central Kitchen

Robert EggerThe DC Central Kitchen is the country’s first “community kitchen”, where food donated by hospitality businesses and farms is used to fuel a nationally recognized culinary arts job training program, where unemployed men and women learn marketable skills while donations are converted into balanced meals. Since opening in 1989, the Kitchen has produced over 23 million meals and helped 800 men and women gain full time employment. Robert was included in the Non Profit Times list of the “50 Most Powerful and Influential” nonprofit leaders and he speaks throughout the country and internationally on the subjects of sustainability, nonprofit political engagement and social enterprise.

Roderick Morris, Senior Vice President, Opower
 
Roderick Morris, OpowerRoderick leads the teams that create energy savings results for Opower’s client base through targeted marketing campaigns and general management of client operations. Previously, Roderick was VP, Marketing at Vovici, a leading Software as a Service provider of customer-feedback management solutions, where he led marketing, product management, public relations, and analyst relations, quintupling organic search traffic and doubling new business pipeline. Previously, he worked for Bain & Company, Microsoft, Simmons & Company, and Corporate Executive Board. Roderick earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.

Mark Newberg, Senior Policy Advisor, U.S. Small Business Administration

Mark NewbergMark Newberg is a Senior Policy Advisor at the U.S. Small Business Administration, where his  where his primary areas of focus include impact investing, innovation, high-growth entrepreneurship, and disaster recovery. Mark previously served as an Advisor to the New Orleans City Council following Hurricane Katrina, where he was tasked with "big-picture policy," green/clean development, intergovernmental relations, and multi-sector partnerships. Mark holds a BA in Political Science from Tulane University and a JD from Tulane Law School and was a Visiting Student at Harvard Law School.

For over seven years, StartingBloc has brought together promising students and young professionals who are interested in leveraging successful business strategies to address economic, environmental, and social issues around the world. The StartingBloc Fellowship is a leadership development program that begins with the transformative five-day Institute for Social Innovation. The Institute is a boot-camp designed to include all the basic skills required for becoming an agent of social change. Following the Institute, Fellows join the global StartingBloc community of 1500 social innovators, who represent 221 colleges and over 54 countries.
